FAQ

Good to know

Are my files uploaded to FileMoat?

No. The tool runs entirely inside your browser tab. Your files are read from your device, processed in memory and saved back to your device. Nothing is sent to our server — you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it keeps working.

How strong is the protection?

The file is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest standard PDF encryption, supported by Adobe Acrobat, Preview, Chrome, Edge and other modern readers. Its real strength depends on your password: use a long one that is hard to guess.

What if I forget the password?

Nobody can recover it — not us, because we never see it. Keep the password somewhere safe, and keep an unprotected copy of the original if you may need it.

What does “block editing and copying” do?

It asks PDF readers not to allow changes or copying text. Mainstream readers respect it, but it is a weaker lock than the password itself, which encrypts the whole file.
